What’s Hauls for Heroes? And everything else you need to know about TQL’s Military Month

Total Quality Logistics is committed to supporting active-duty military members, veterans and their families. We salute them with year-round recognition, including a dedicated campaign during Military Month each May.

This primer breaks down TQL’s Military Month tributes to the troops.

Why do we celebrate Military Month?

Congress designated May as Military Appreciation Month in 1999, and TQL has embraced it as a signature campaign. We celebrate it annually through fundraising, care packages and Hauls for Heroes, an initiative in which we make donations on every load arranged in a designated week.

Our ‘why’ is simple: We are passionate about saluting our soldiers, past and present, for preserving our freedom.

We proudly partner with Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and United Service Organizations (USO) for Military Month. We light up our headquarters’ exterior in patriotic colors every night in May as an homage to service members, a vibrant tribute in red, white and blue.

Many of us at TQL personally know people who have served. We honor them inside headquarters with a Military Tribute Wall. TQL’ers and visitors are encouraged to personalize cards on behalf of military members close to their hearts.

We proudly count veterans as one pillar of our charitable giving and appreciate their sacrifices. Our Veteran’s Day Luncheon each fall is a testament to that, as are our strides during Military Month.

Together with our employees, customers and carriers, TQL has donated more than $378,500 and 12,500 care packages to active military and veterans since 2009.

Tell us more about Hauls for Heroes.

Hauls for Heroes is a Military Month initiative in which TQL makes a donation for every load moved in a specified week.

TQL has supported Hauls for Heroes for 14 years. We’ve raised over $378,000 for military charities through the program since 2009.

“We at TQL are proud to stand behind our military,” TQL president Kerry Byrne said. “The USO and DAV do important work for our active-duty and veteran men and women and we’re thrilled to contribute to the care of service members.”

How does the care package process work?

We invite customers, carriers, TQL’ers, friends, family and the public to thank soldiers and their families with free care packages. By accessing a digital form in a specified time frame, supporters digitally build care packages and personalize them with notes.

TQL takes care of the rest. We print, purchase, build and deliver the packages to military service members throughout the country.

Assembling the care packages is part of the fun, and TQL does that through a “Helpy Hour” at headquarters. We fill boxes with the items we have purchased – chips, gum, cereal, cookies, playing cards and more – and box them up for the USO's distribution.

We have assembled more than 12,500 care packages for the troops since 2009.

Anything else to know about Military Month?

When Military Month comes to a close, TQL’s appreciation for those serving our country doesn’t stop. We show support and gratitude for our military and veteran service members throughout the year.

We are also committed to hiring the best of the best, and that includes employing veterans and active-duty military. U.S. service members possess the fortitude needed to provide five-star service in the essential industry of transportation logistics.

Their knowledge and experience complement the extraordinary work ethic of our team and enrich our award-winning culture.
