TQL salutes military members with record donations in May
Financial contributions, care packages support Military Appreciation Month
Cincinnati (OH) – Total Quality Logistics (TQL), one of the largest freight brokerage firms in North America, honored service members with record donations as part of Military Appreciation Month in May.
TQL partnered with the United Service Organizations of Ohio and Disabled American Veterans and, with its employees, customers and carriers, amassed a record $64,780 donation and an all-time high 8,600 care packages for military members.

Military Appreciation Month, the annual designation for May by Congress since 1999, is among TQL Cares’ top charitable campaigns. TQL has donated more than $378,500 and 12,500 care packages to active military and veterans since 2009.
“We at TQL are proud to stand behind our military,” said TQL president Kerry Byrne. “The USO and DAV do important work for our active-duty and veteran men and women and we’re thrilled to contribute to the care of service members.”
This year TQL honored the military through two projects.
- Move a Load: Through its 14th annual Hauls for Heroes campaign, TQL made a $1 donation for every freight load arranged between May 16-22. The proceeds benefited the USO and DAV.
- Care Packages. The public was invited to create free Build A Hero care packages online by personalizing a greeting card and picking the contents of the box. TQL purchased and assembled the packages for the USO to distribute to military service members.
The greeting card has been a longstanding part of the initiative but care packages are only in their third year. Last year’s Military Appreciation Month yielded 2,300. This year’s 8,600 tally was more than triple.
TQL’s Lexington and Charlotte offices will assemble the rest of the care packages.
USO Ohio executive director Sherry Ems said TQL’s care packages typically are distributed to multiple sites in Ohio. All of this year’s boxes will go to Fort Knox in Kentucky to support participants in Cadet Command Summer Training.
Ems said TQL’s generous donations of care packages and funds have helped the USO carry out its mission to serve military members.
“We are very grateful to TQL for all the support it has provided,” Ems said.
