TQL Named Top Workplace By Dayton Daily News

Cincinnati – Total Quality Logistics (TQL) has been selected as a 2013 Top Workplace by the Dayton Daily News and Springfield News-Sun.

TQL will triple the workforce of its Dayton team in the next three years, adding more than 100 salespeople to its ranks. The company’s local office, which is located in Centerville, opened in September 2011 with just 8 employees. It now employs more than 40.

“We came to Dayton because that’s where our employees told us they wanted to go,” said Kerry Byrne, TQL executive vice president. “They enjoy the quality of life and amenities that the Dayton area has to offer and we are able to attract top talent from the surrounding colleges and universities to a career in an industry they may not have considered before.”

TQL is now the second largest freight brokerage in the nation, specializing in truckload transportation. The company employs more than 2,000 and moves more than 14,000 loads of freight every week. The company has grown an average of 30% a year since its founding in 1997.

The importance and responsibility of the job, in addition to the opportunity to earn unlimited compensation on top of their base salary, are a few of the reasons employees cite TQL as a great workplace. The average compensation for a salesperson who has been selling with TQL for only two years is more than $60,000. For the top 20% of sales people in the company, that number hurdles to an average of more than $100,000.

The hiring process is extremely selective at TQL and new hires must participate in a rigorous logistics and sales training program before they can start hunting for customers of their own. A TQL salesperson is responsible for identifying shippers who need assistance moving freight, finding quality carriers, negotiating rates, and ensuring on-time delivery.

“This is a challenging position in an extremely fast-paced and competitive industry,” said Byrne. “Work ethic and tenacity are the primary components of success.”
