TQL Helps Kirby Family Farm Bring a New Train to the Farm

Williston, Fla. –TQL is helping the Kirby Family Farm bring another historic locomotive to the Farm this spring. Through our Moves That Matter program, TQL is making a $1,000 gift to Kirby Family Farm to assist with the cost of relocating and restoring a donated historic train engine. Once complete, the locomotive will be used as a teaching tool for at-risk students.

Moves That Matter benefits non-profit organizations who use the truckload transportation industry to move items that will help those in need. TQL employees, customers or carriers can nominate non-profit organizations with whom they have worked to help move an important load of freight.

Located in Willston, FL, southwest of Gainesville, the farm offers educational, historical, recreational agricultural and community enrichment programs to children and families in the area. The non-profit organization sits on 174 acres that features Florida’s largest private railroad, a fully restored 100-year-old depot and a working farm.

“TQL came through for us in a big way when we needed them,” said founder Daryl Kirby. “When this historic, 107-year-old locomotive was donated to us, we knew who to call to arrange transportation. Not only did TQL help move the ol' girl down the East Coast, but also stepped in with a grant to help us even more. We are very thankful for our partnership."

“We are glad the Kirby family reached out to us again this year,” said Kerry Byrne, TQL president. “Their mission to serve at-risk children in such unique and ambitious way is something that aligns well with our corporate giving pillars supporting children and wellness. We are proud to be a part of their mission,” he added.

Moves That Matter began in 2014 with a gift to the Where Angels Play Foundation. TQL learned it was entrusted to move the equipment to build the last six of 26 Connecticut playgrounds constructed in memory of each victim of the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting.

Moves That Matter is one of the many programs administered by TQL Cares, the company’s employee-driven community service initiative.
