25 Years of Stories: John C.

To celebrate TQL's 25th anniversary, we're featuring our people's favorite milestones and memories.

When John started at TQL in 2008, he sized up his fellow newcomers and noticed he was the oldest person in the room. It was intimidating at first. Then he realized his age and experience were assets. “I was like, ‘I got this. I can outhustle and outwork all these guys and I’m excited to be here,’” John said. Fourteen years later, he’s still going strong. John, a former Marshall University pitcher and minor-leaguer with the Chicago White Sox and Boston Red Sox organizations, blazed a path to success as a Logistics Account Executive. He extended that fire as a Group Sales Manager in 2013. John qualified for the elite President’s Club trip three times, once as a broker and twice as a GSM. “At the time, very few people had made it in both roles. It became a goal of mine,” John said. That’s not to say every step of the way was easy. John’s first claim could have derailed his logistics career. But, with help from his GSM, he impressed his customer with the way he handled a tough trucking situation. The customer learned how TQL’s service and claims knowledge set it apart from other carriers. John has taken lessons from that experience ever since. Now an Executive Sales Director, he said he’s proud to work for TQL and can’t wait to see what’s next. “Every year when we raise the bar, I’m in awe of all the great things we do,” John said.
