Ivy Teams Into Christmas Spirit
Many stories of TQL Cares for the Holidays come from offices around the country. But teams at headquarters have been busy, too. We shared Team Chafin’s story last week; here are a few more from Ivy Pointe.
Team MVH supported three charities, starting with raising money via a dress down for charity program. The team sold casual passes to raise $400. The funds provided two families enrolled at Children’s Inc. with items on their wish list Dec. 14.
“We chose them off the TQL Cares recommendations on the intranet,” said BTL Austin H. “We have not worked with them before, but will be doing so yearly going forward.”
Next, the team raised more than $1,100 for Saint Joseph’s Orphanage, as well as bringing in toys and personal items.
“We started this event three years ago,” Austin said. “Every year we have increased close to double. This year we worked with the donation director to make it a team/company event and guarantee our contribution. We’ll have our best year by far. We’re hoping to hit our goal of 100 gifts.”
Finally, Team MVH will procure disposable dishware and volunteer to help serve food to the 400 to 500 people in need expected at the Immanuel United Church of Christ Dec. 20.
“We will have approximately 20 team members volunteering their time between two sessions,” Austin said. “We’ll be setting up, prepping, serving and then cleaning up and tearing down.”
Justin W. organized an LC canned food drive (open to donations from all, of course) benefiting the Freestore Foodbank. He planned to make his delivery today (Dec. 18).
“I chose them because I saw a local news station talking about how the Freestore ran out of food on Thanksgiving,” Justin said. “I decided to put this together to help them out and hopefully bring in enough to help make sure that didn’t happen again during Christmas.”
Human resources partnered with Beech Acres, adopting a family of five.
Vice President of HR Ralph Lee has been working with Beech Acres – specifically its Fore Kids golf outing – for several years. That relationship led to some TQL employees taking new-parent classes there; 2015 marks the second straight Christmas the HR team adopted a family.
“Together we raised $383 and were able to provide gifts to a family in need so that they are able to have a good Christmas,” said HR assistant Ashley S. “We just wanted to share.”
The marketing team also worked with Beech Acres, adopting a family of nine and providing $600 worth of gifts for the kids on Dec. 11.
Employee engagement specialist Katie S. worked at Beech Acres before coming to TQL and had first-hand knowledge of the kind of family-forward work the organization does.
“It was great to have that kind of connection,” said corporate giving specialist Corey D. “We had a lot of good options, but it always means more when there’s a personal touch. Our team was its usual generous self and made nine kids who otherwise wouldn’t have had very much this Christmas very happy.”
