Women in Logistics spotlight: Caroline
Women in Logistics (WIL) is an Employee Resource Group that attracts, connects and develops the TQL community of women by providing internal networking opportunities, professional development and community involvement. WIL spotlights its members regularly to share their stories of success. This month, learn about Caroline, a TQL Group Sales Manager.
Share your story of how you became successful at TQL.
I created a daily schedule for myself because time management and accountability were my weak spots. I stuck to it closely for months and began seeing results. I asked questions often and was vocal about wanting to succeed.
What qualities/personality traits got you where you are today?
Grit, coachability and optimism. This job is not easy. Nobody can want your success more than you. Be aggressive about creating the life you want for yourself.
What are the benefits of having more women and diversity at TQL?
I joined the St. Louis office when we only had a few women. Interestingly enough, back then, all of our top brokers were female. They have been a constant inspiration and motivator for me since starting at TQL.
What's the best career advice you give?
Commit yourself to the job early on. Celebrate the small wins as they come because they hold you through until you reach the big milestones.
Do you have a TQL mentor? If so, how is that beneficial to you?
Having multiple mentors at TQL is important. Talk to your leaders and look at who in the company is excelling and in what areas. Ask for 1:1s, come prepared with questions and learn as much as you can from each person you talk to, regardless of their tenure, title or T-12. Jordan Norton, GSM of KC, has been my largest supporter and mentor since day one. Find a go-to who can help you ride the highs and lows.
How do you maintain work-life balance?
Do the things that bring you joy and make them a priority after hours to reward yourself for the work you are putting in. I like taking my dogs on hikes, grabbing dinner and drinks with friends or reading a book by the pool.
