TQL pledges record $1.76 million in Annual Giving Campaign
More than 80% of employees supported 3,600 nonprofits in weeklong initiative.
TQL’ers came out in record numbers for the most generous TQL Cares Annual Giving Campaign yet, pledging a company-best $1,755,357 in support of 3,600 nonprofits the week of Aug. 17-22.
Over 8,000 members of the 10,000-person staff, or 80% of the entire TQL team, donated to nonprofits of their choosing. Each donation received the company match – 50 cents on the dollar – to aid medical research, the environment, kids, pets and more.
Thanks to robust giving, TQL’s $1.76 million donation surpassed its 2021 pledge ($1.25 million) and 2020 pledge ($955,831).
Although TQL’s year-over-year 40% donation increase and 50% donor increase were compelling figures, the stories within the giving shined most. TQL’ers Devyne C. and Edie G. shared their reasons for being involved in the Annual Giving Campaign and TQL Cares.
Branch team leader Devyne discovered her passion for TJ’s Rescue Hideaway, a foster-based, no-kill animal rescue. She took her dog Yoshi there for behavioral training after his 2018 adoption. Devyne was so impressed with the organization’s work and community impact that she began volunteering and donating on its behalf.
“I love our 50% match program in the Annual Giving Campaign. You can really maximize your contribution for the charity of your choice, like I do with TJ’s. I see how quickly that money goes out the door,” Devyne said.
Office administrator Edie grew up charitably-focused and described giving back as “an essential part of being human.”
“Through TQL, I’ve been able to give back on a larger scale as a Charity Captain. We were able to coordinate a bake sale to give a substantial amount of money back to a center for women and families right in our back yard,” Edie said. “We were able to coordinate giving food to people in the local community who don’t have any and now they know where a consistent meal is going to come from.”
Edie and other Charity Captains helped propel the Annual Giving Drive by encouraging TQL teams to donate. By the event’s conclusion, 91 teams reached 75% participation and won free lunches. Six teams earned beer drops with 100% participation.
A sampling of other TQL team members’ reasons for giving:
“My donations go to Love4Satos. I’ve been donating to them for probably the last 10 years. Sato is the Puerto Rican slang word for street dogs, and the charity focuses on rescuing and finding homes for them. My family visits Puerto Rico regularly, and we’ve seen how many stray dogs roam around. Two of our current dogs were adopted from them, and they are both very special to us.” - Eric L.
“I give to the ACLU. Their purpose is to defend, preserve and advance the rights of people. Their goals align with mine – pursuing racial justice, equality for LGBT people and ending mass incarceration. I also give to the Animal Care Society in Louisville, Ky. They are a no-kill shelter. My mom is retired and volunteers there full-time. The cat room is even named after her.” -Tracy B.
“When I found out that TQL matches my donation by 50% each time that I would give, I started giving immediately to the life-changing organization that I know impacts the world. With my contribution…I have helped save over 100 children’s lives.” – Grant F.
“I donate to the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley, which helps homeless people in my hometown who need a place to stay and help getting on their feet. They also do free meals for those in need. I remember volunteering there when I was in high school and really liked what the organization was doing. I am so blessed and fortunate to be in the position I am financially now and really want to give back and help those who are less fortunate.” – Michael L.
